Orientation week in winter semester 2025/26
The Orientation Week, or OWO for short, is an introductory week for new students in the Energy Science and Engineering master's program. There are joint activities such as rallies and evening programs to network with other students and get to know the program, TU Darmstadt, and the city.

OWO for the 2025/26 winter semester will take place from Monday, October 6, through Thursday, October 9, 2025. New students will receive details about the program by email from the student council.
Orientation day for the degree program: October 9
Part of the OWO is the orientation day on Thursday, October 9, for all first-year students in the Master's program in Energy Science and Engineering (ESE). You will receive all the important information about the Master's program and answers to your questions about study planning.

The staff at the Energy Science and Engineering Student Office answer any questions you may have about the master's program. The Student Office is located in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, also known as etit or FB 18. The Energy Science and Engineering Student Council represents the interests of students in this field of study. It provides support for all interdisciplinary topics relevant to studies. here is the second newsletter about starting the Master's program in Energy Science and Engineering at TU Darmstadt. Today we will focus on orientation week and, in particular, orientation day. You will also learn more about the acronyms ESE and AStA, as well as the sports and leisure activities offered at TU Darmstadt.
On Thursday, October 9, there will be an orientation day for all new students in the Master's program in Energy Science and Engineering (ESE). This information day is designed to make it easier for you to get started with your studies. You will receive all the important information about the Master's program and answers to your questions about planning your studies.
The following schedule is planned for Thursday, October 9:

Orientation week: October 6–9
The Orientation Day is part of the Orientation Week, or OWO for short, which runs from Monday, October 6, through Thursday, October 9, 2025. Be there! It's worth it. The student council has put together a great program, where you can get to know Darmstadt, the Technical University, and, above all, your fellow students. Details about the week's program will follow in an email from the student council at the beginning of October.
ESE and AStA
Here in the Energy Science and Engineering department, you will often come across the letters ESE, which is how we abbreviate Energy Science and Engineering.
AStA stands for Allgemeiner Studierendenausschuss (General Student Committee). The AStA is the elected representative body of students at TU Darmstadt. In addition to socially and politically relevant issues, it also deals with matters such as the semester ticket, cooperation with “Call a Bike,” and free tickets for Staatstheater Darmstadt. It also offers various counseling and lecture services. Further information on the AStA can be found here:

Sports, culture, and community involvement
There is also a lot to discover at TU Darmstadt besides your studies. At the university sports center, you can participate in many sports, such as breakdancing, soccer, hockey, Pilates, Quidditch, and swimming. There are also numerous university groups where you can make music with others, get involved in social causes, and discover new things.

in a few days, the winter semester will start. Therefore, there are a few things to do. We hope you are as excited and eager for the start as we are at the Energy Science and Engineering department. Let's get started!
1. Activate your TU ID!
The TU ID is your central user ID at TU Darmstadt. It gives you access to various systems, such as TUCaN, Moodle, and the TUDa app. You need an access code to activate it. You will receive this code by email.
2. Install the TUDa app!
As a student at TU Darmstadt, you will receive your student ID card digitally in the TUDa app. The app also contains the cafeteria menu, it grants you access to Moodle, your emails and an overview of the books you have borrowed.

3. Get your Athene card and your TU email account!
To do so, go to the website of the University Computer Center (HRZ) for first-year students. There you can get your Athene card and your TU email account, free Wi-Fi access, M365, TUCaN, and more. You will need the Athene card for the library and to pay in the cafeteria.
TUCaN, Moodle, email, software, free Wi-Fi
- TUCaN is the central system for courses and exams at TU Darmstadt.
Help with TUCaN - Moodle provides a central digital learning space for students, where they can find everything they need for their digital studies. You can use Moodle with your TU ID.
Moodle at TU Darmstadt - You can access your university emails via webmail portal.

Orientation day on Thursday, October 9,
for all new students in the Master's program in Energy Science and Engineering (ESE). It starts at 9 a.m. The meeting point is room A93 in building L3|01 (El-Lissitzky-Straße 1, 64287 Darmstadt) on the Lichtwiese campus. The program includes a welcome speech by the dean of studies, an information session on the ESE master's program, and a presentation by the ESE student council. Orientation Week (OWO): October 6-9
The student council has planned further social activities for the OWO from Monday, October 6, through Thursday, October 9, 2025. Come to Darmstadt and discover the degree program, the TU, and the city together with your fellow students.
Even those who already know Darmstadt and the TU well are cordially invited to the OWO and orientation day, as the OWO is primarily intended for socializing. The ESE student council will send you an email at the beginning of October with the schedule of all socializing activities you can participate in during orientation week from October 6-9.
Darmstadt
The center of Darmstadt is Luisenplatz, from where you can reach the Stadtmitte campus in a few minutes by foot. The Lichtwiese campus is located slightly outside the city center, but is easily accessible by bus, tram and train. The university stadium and swimming pool are also located there. Near the Lichtwiese campus is the Vivarium, a small zoo. The swimming lake named Woog is a great place to cool down on summer days.
Good coffee and refreshments are available at the Schlossgarten Café and at 221qm, run by the AStA. The moat is also a great place to relax and is well worth a visit. In the evenings, there are many events in the Schlosskeller or in the 806qm:

Lectures will start on Monday, October 13.
