Energy Research

multi-disciplinary and cross-linked

Energy is a cross-cutting topic that requires the interdisciplinary integration of all relevant research disciplines. The challenges the transformation of our energy system poses can only be met by a holistic approach. Only a strong interaction of the scientists working on energy topics from different angles and an intensive exchange reaching beyond the own scientific field present a possibility to develop knew technologies and manage their integration into the overall system in an intelligent way.

Energy science comprises very diverse scientific issues and methods and can be characterized as highly innovative and requiring close interdisciplinary collaboration. During the past years, formerly mostly separately working areas of energy science at TU Darmstadt could successfully be brought together and energy was established as a common research subject. The formation of a highly efficient network enabled us to establish an interdisciplinary master programme and a graduate school of excellence as well as to initiate a large number of collaborative research projects.
